Im sure that this particular glove was designed for baseball but as you can clearly see that the pocket of this glove totally swallows up both a baseball and a softball ! So it will work for both sports if needed ! This particular glove is fully broken in , it is very user friendly and your young player will not struggle with a hard to use glove ! The glove also has an incredible pocket as you can clearly see in the photos ! So once the ball enters the pocket of this glove it is not going to pop out ! Check out the 4th and the 5th photos how the glove just wraps itself around the baseball and the 8th and the 9th photos show how the glove wraps itself around a full size 12 inch round softball ! As far as fitting goes, this mitt is a snug fit on my average adult size hand and it is tight in the finger stalls ! This mitt does NOT have a Velcro wrist strap but there is adjustment room on the lace wrist strap ! The inner lining is in excellent condition and the glove is extremely comfortable to the hand and the fingers all the way up through the finger stalls ! There is a name written on the outside of the thumb area in red pen ! It is a little hard to see but you can view it in the photos ! So other than that there is no ink or marker anywhere on the glove ! You will not be disappointed with this glove !
