Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The postcard I have for sale was part of a promotion of the Halloween room at the Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville, North Carolina. The card mentions that the Halloween room is located downstairs and that the Biltmore House and Gardens are open year-round except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. The postcard is copyrighted by The Biltmore Co. in 1981 and was made by Dexter Press in West Nyack, New York. The Overlook Hotel in the movie, The Shining, could as easily been filmed in the Biltmore Hotel in North Carolina. As you may recall, the movie the Shining was a big hit. The movie was based on a novel by Stephen King and directed by Stanley Kubrick. It was filmed in different parts of the Western US, including the elevator scene at Yosemite National Park. Anyway I digress. Let?s talk about the Biltmore?s Halloween Room. The Halloween Room would have been an interesting place to I have included a few photos the Biltmore Estate for historical reference. The Biltmore Estate is a historic house museum and tourist attraction in Asheville, North Carolina. Biltmore House (or Biltmore Mansion), the main residence, is a Châteauesque-style mansion built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895and is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 sq ft (16,622.8 m2) of floor space and 135,280 sq ft (12,568 m2) of living area. Still owned by George Vanderbilt's descendants, it remains one of the most prominent examples of Gilded Age mansions. As part of the estate, the owners created the Halloween Room. It still exists today. The Halloween Room was built in the basement and used frequently for special events by the Vanderbilt?s. Famous people participated in gathers in the Halloween Room.
