T Taxco Mexico was once renowned as the oldest mining center in the Americas, and in 1930's began a transformation from mining town into the center of professional silversmiths and silver working artisans in all of Mexico under William Sprattling. He brought new ideas, and designs that were based on pre-colonial motifs, and he quickly he trained local craftsmen to produce these silver design works from his workshop in Taller de las Delicias. Sprattling, and soon the city of TAXCO, gained a reputation for fine designs and excellent workmanship. Many of his apprentices went on to found their own silver workshops and the region grew into a hub for silversmiths, and artists designing and creating artistic silver pieces. With Spratling's arrival, Taxco transitioned from being a mere producer of silver to transforming pieces of the white metal into genuine works of art. As silver working became more and more popular in Taxco, the town gradually developed into Mexico’s premier showcase for high quality silver work of all kinds, from jewelry to tableware.
