Description: DATING TO THE 1890’S FASHIONED OF A BLACK AND RED PRINT COTTON WITH LARGE CAPE COLLAR AROUND THE NECKLINE. RUFFLES TRIM THE BOTTOM CUFFS WITH METALLIC GOLD AND SILVER PAINTED BLACK GLASS BUTTONS TRIMMING THE CLOSURE OF THE FRONT. POCKETS ON EACH SIDE WITH A SLIGHT GATHERING ON EACH REAR SIDE. CONDITION: THIS TOP WOULD HAVE ORIGINALLY HAD A MATCHING UNDER SKIRT BUT COULD BE PAIRED WITH ANY BLACK SKIRT TO MAKE A FULL ENSEMBLE. SOLD AS IT WAS ACQUIRED. ALL OF THE HOOK AND EYES WERE REMOVED FROM THE FRONT AND ARE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. THERE ARE SOME LARGE BREAKS WHERE THE HOOKS ONCE WERE ALONG THE FRONT CLOSURE AND I PERSONALLY WOULD ADD A SOLID BLACK COTTON TO EACH SIDE TO STRENGTHEN. SEVERAL PINHEAD HOLES ASIDE THE BOTTOM CLOSURE. WHEN HELD TO LIGHT THERE ARE THREE PINHEAD HOLES WITH SOME HEAVY DAMAGE SEEN ON THE BOTTOM EDGE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAPE COLLAR AND I PERSONALLY WOULD SHORTEN. WHEN STUDIED, THERE IS STITCHING AND IT MAY HAVE HAD A VELVET OR BRAID TRIM AT ONE POINT. A BEAUTIFUL PRINT VICTORIAN DRESS WELL WORTHY OF RESTORATION.
