Description: pre-WWII Era US Navy Officer's Fore & Aft Cap with Epaulets in a Japan Tin Metal Storage Box - Horstmann Brand - Nice Condition Up for sale is an Original pre- WWII Era US Navy Officer's Fore & Aft Cap with Epaulets in a Japan Tin Metal Storage Box. The Cap, Epaulets and Box all have the Horstmann Label markings. The cap is used, please see photo's for condition. No rips or tears. No mothing. There is wear on the felt along the edges of the an and on the top, see photo. Inside the cap are the Horstmann Logo manufacturer markings and showing it is a size 6 7/8. The Epaulets are in Very NICE condition. The wire braids are all intact. It has the metal tabs to attach them to the uniforms. Each Epaulet has the Horstmann Logo. The Japan Tin Box is Original to the set. The box is marked with the Horstmann Logo. Additionally, the box is marked USN with the Officer's Initials S.E.D. The box has a dent on the left lower corner, see photo. The box has numerous scratches and wear on the external painted finish. The interior has the storage area for the Cap and the removable frame to store the Epaulets. I estimate the age of the set to be in the very early part of the 1900 to 1920 period.
