Description: Selling my Fender Custom Shop Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special. This was a limited run done by Sweetwater back in 2010 so it has a couple upgrades/differences from some of the other Custom Deluxes at the time. The most obvious difference would be that the neck was upgraded to a AA Flame Maple neck w/ vintage tint. It's absolutely beautiful looking and I'm surprised that they don't do it on more of the custom shop models. The pictures do not do it justice. On top it has a dark Hand-selected Indian Rosewood fretboard that looks amazing, and has the '65 "C" Shape. On my calipers the neck measure about 13/16" (.8125) at the first fret and 15.1/16" (.94375) at the 12th. The other obvious difference is that this one came in the Emerald Green transparent finish on a select Alder body. I believe they only had one in this color for the run, and I've only ever seen one other CS Strat in this color, but that had a different type of wood top, so its very unique and a bit of a one off in that respect. . The wood grain on the body is amazing as well, and similar to the neck, the pictures don't do it justice either. On my scale it weighs 8 lbs 5.1 oz. I upgraded the electronics with a Clone Tone Professional Series guitar harness which has CTS pots and a reproduction Luxe 1952-1958 Phone Book Wax Impregnated Paper & Foil .1mF Capacitor. These are the same style of caps that came in 50's Strats and they sound awesome. This guitar originally came with the Eric Johnson 57 Strat style wiring so I kept that style since I liked the sound and had the work done by my local Custom Shop authorized guitar tech. If you're not familiar with the EJ wiring there is a Master Volume, then Neck tone, and Bridge tone control, with no tone control on the Middle pickup. All of this is wired up to Fat 50's pickups in the neck and middle and a Custom Shop Texas Special in the bridge. It all gives the guitar this cool vintage 50's Strat sound, but with the SRV style bite in the bridge for solos. It's awesome. I'll include the full write up/specs for the guitar below so you can see the full list of appointments and also include the details about the cap. The original wiring harness is included in case you ever wanted to switch back as well. Overall this thing is in great shape, but there is some marks on it that I'll go over to get nitpicky for you as I'd want someone to be that way for me. It's mostly just normal pick wear from playing type stuff, but the one that I do want to point out is on the back there's these 6 little sort of dots that almost look as though bubbles popped under the finish. I've included some pictures (2nd to last) so you can see what I mean, but they're very small, like the size of a tip of a pen so they're hard to see. I'm honestly not really sure where they came from because I don't think I hit it on something to cause them. Its like they're under the finish because if you run your finger over them its smooth. You can't grab at them with a fingernail for example like if it was a chip in the paint. I've never had the guitar refinished, so I really don't know how to explain them other than it was like they were just there one day and I noticed them. And if I somehow did something to cause them then I don't know what it was. They're on the back so I forgot they were even there until I just polished this thing up the other day. The only other mark of note would be near the neck pocket on the treble side there's a small ding where if I remember I think I bumped it with a tool while messing around with the intonation one time. I'll include a picture of that as well (last pic). Other than that though anything else is just going to be your standard play wear like light pickguard scratches, maybe some swirl type marks from polishing it, or possibly some sort of hairline scratches from changing strings, etc. I baby my stuff and have done my best to keep this in as perfect shape as possible. I just did a full cleaning on it, polished the frets, changed the strings, and even go as far as taking q-tips to all the tiny grooves and crevices to ty and get every last bit of grime on it when I clean it so this thing is silky smooth and ready to go. Anything else that looks like a scratch or whatever in the pictures would be either dust or a glare. And if you find something that I somehow missed please tell me as I am not the type of person to try and pull a fast one on anyone. Also I should mention that this comes with the original hardshell case, COA, case candy, etc. I don't gig, I don't smoke, and I don't have pets, so other than the normal play wear that I mentioned, this has had a pretty easy life and is a fantastic guitar. I took pictures of it both inside and outside to try and give you an idea of how it looks in both situations, but it looks even better in person, and if you want any more pictures just let me know. I will ship it with insurance and signature confirmation. I've shipped a lot of nice gear over the years so this thing will be packed up like a tank. At this time I'm only willing to ship to the lower 48 states. No freight forwarding type company addresses either. Also willing to meet up instead of shipping if you're within a reasonable distance of San Diego. I think I covered it all, but if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. And if you want more pictures of anything just let me know. Thank you for looking. Sweetwater write up/specs: Pure Strat Perfection! Everyone knows the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster is an incredible Strat. But any true Strat lover will always have a wish list of tweaks, modifications, and subtle adjustments to turn an incredible Strat into a vision of pure Strat perfection. Here, the guitar-loving crew at Sweetwater got together with the Fender Custom Shop with our own wish list of sorts. With input from you, our customers, and all of the toneheads here, we went ahead and put a twist on the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster to create our very own version, the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special. We know you'll love it as much as we do. So, what makes the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special so special? It's the extra attention to detail here. All the woods were hand selected for beauty, grain, and the traits of tonal perfection. We upped the neck from "A" flame maple to "AA" maple, for an even more amazing appearance. And we also went ahead and gave the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special a set of locking tuners, versus the regular Deluxe's regular staggered set. The bridge here is a 2-point bridge with bent-steel vintage-style saddles (similar to the American Standard). And because we're totally tweaky, we went ahead and gave the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special a parchment 3-ply pickguard for a slightly aged look that we love. But any true Strat fan will tell you there's magic in the pickup configuration. We didn't mess with tried-and-true, so there's still a trio of single-coils in our Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special. However, we hand-selected a different complement of them to make this Strat really sing with a bit more attitude. At the neck and middle, we stuck Fat '50s single-coil pickups. You'll get that '50s-style Fender sound, with enhanced bass response but no harsh midrange. At the bridge, we left the popular Custom Shop Texas Special single-coil, giving you a dose of that Texas blues sound. And to give you a different style of tweak on your tone, we made the controls Master Volume, Neck, and Bridge (a la the Eric Johnson Stratocaster). All in all, the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special is a finely tuned piece of Fender Custom Shop workmanship that's got the best-of-the-best Strat appointments, with a special twist for the true Strat lover. And, of course, as with all Fender Custom Strats, the Fender Custom Deluxe Stratocaster Special was painstakingly crafted by one of Fender's finest builders right here in the USA.
