Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord Portrait -1894 Print Org Lg By Stuart

Description: Original engraving of Talleyrand Engraving is over 125years old. Talleyrand was a French secularised clergyman, statesman and leading diplomat. After studying theology, he became Agent-General of the Clergy in 1780. In 1789, just before the French Revolution, he became Bishop of Autun. He worked at the highest levels of successive French governments, most commonly as foreign minister or in some other diplomatic capacity. His career spanned the regimes of Louis XVI, the years of the French Revolution, Napoleon, Louis XVIII, and Louis Philippe I. Those Talleyrand served often distrusted him but, like Napoleon, found him extremely useful. The name "Talleyrand" has become a byword for crafty, cynical diplomacy. Size:12 by 9 1/2 inches actual picture without writing 6 3/4 by 4 7/8 inches Condition: no foxing really good shape see photos some toning but most toning can disappear with white eraser Would look nice in an acid free mat and black frame. Great piece of history. We got these while we were living in Philadelphia. Bought at an antique store and always thought we would open a store to sell prints but now retired so just selling.
