Description: revised 080523 1981 Dark Tower Board Game - Battery Compartment Rebuild Send in your damaged battery compartment for a complete rebuild. Slightly dirty to heavily corroded contacts, power switch and power wires will give your tower erratic power and operating issues or it just won't turn on. With damaged corroded contacts, the tower may power up, start a game, and in the middle, bump the tower just right and it will reset and lose your game progress! This rebuild includes restoring the original battery contacts, inspecting and reconditioning the power wires, disassembling and cleaning the power switch. Light stains are cleaned up inside the battery compartment plastic. If the contacts are too corroded to clean they will be replaced with a custom stainless steel set, along with replacing the power wires, and red power connector. The power switch will be opened and cleaned thoroughly and parts replaced if needed. These new battery contacts are hand made from .025" thick, corrosion resistant stainless steel. These battery contacts are a little thicker than the originals to hold the batteries very tight in the compartment. During game play, the dark tower circuit board can briefly feed on up to 1.5 amps of power at a time! This rebuilt battery compartment maintains excellent battery contact to keep the power flowing to the very hungry dark tower circuit board. The TMS1000 Dark Tower processor chip runs at 9V by an onboard 3V power supply controller IC chip boosting the power to 9V. It's needs all of the juice it can get from good clean contacts, wire, connectors and the power switch! The power switches are always disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. If the metal switch case is severely corroded, it will be removed, dipped in acid, sandblasted and a new zinc coating applied. New switch lubricants are added for reliable operation. Then reinstalled and fully tested. Send it in to get a quality battery compartment rebuild to last a very long time. Any questions, please ask. Send pics of your compartment if your not sure if it can be rebuilt. You can contact darktowerguy. I've rebuild dozens of his units. In fact, in this pic, there are 5 more ready to ship out! And then another 6 just finished today! And then another 5 battery compartments and 9 rebuilt keypads! No way! And yet again today in the very last picture with another shipment to darktowerguy with 6 rebuilt battery compartments, 9 repaired keypads and 3 repaired circuit boards. OMG, make it stop! Thanks for looking! DT Burbage4 Dunbar WaySterling, VA 20165 I just had a question today about this problem... "Hello, My tower has dim lights and turns slower than i remember. Turn on and the game is blank. fiddle with the batteries and beat it with a stick it will turn on. I put brand new Duracell and Energizer no difference. The battery connectors are pretty clean. Thank you." "Sure. There are lots of, not so obvious, areas that cause these intermittent power issues. To start, if the large battery compartment contact has tiny black dots where the battery touches, this is normal corrosion from 40 years and it raises the batteries off the contact lowering current to the power hungry circuit board. Next is the power wires. These wires were copper tinned strands, wrapped together then soldered together and then molded in plastic. This stiff wire easily snaps from just a few movements back and forth. So only a few, couple of strands are providing power. The black lead is common to have a greenish corrosion building up from time or from corroded batteries in the past. Next is the red power connector. From time or corrosion in the past, the pins inside the connector darken from oxidation, lowering power. Same with the white board male connector routing power to the board. The #1 problem is - the power switch. When the wires were soldered at the switch, flux ran into the contacts and hardened creating this thick brown glaze that moves back and forth corroding the contacts, causing intermittent power issues. The symptoms are, that you beat it, it works, shut it off, then back on again, it stops working, beat it again...etc. All of these factors add up to intermittent power issues. So, clean, polish, seal the batt contacts or replace them, replace wire with modern type, new connectors, disassemble and clean switch = full power = good for a lifetime." Send a message after the purchase with tracking information. I don't have cover for weather at the shipping and receiving door. If after about 10 days that a message is not received, it will be assumed that you are no longer interested and a refund will be processed. View more great items
